Getting Around Disney World
(Short Excerpts From the Book)
Transportation on Disney Property
Disney World
prides itself in having some of the best, well-run
transportation in the world. By using a combination of
buses, ferries, monorail, and trams, Disney is able to connect
their parks and resorts in a very timely manner. Most
individuals can get from one park to another within 30
minutes. If you stay on property, you can park your car
on your first day and never need it during your trip.
This, of course, does depend on your expectations and the
make-up of your party.
If you have a
baby or if you have a couple of small children, you might want
to consider renting a car or using your own car during your
stay. A bus can get you around fairly quickly, but with
a screaming child or cranky kids, quickly isn't quick enough.
Loading and unloading buses can be a chore and it might be
something that you would want to avoid altogether.

Car Rental Tips
If you are staying offsite, a rental car should be a must.
It is not totally necessary if your budget does not allow it,
but it could definitely make your trip a little smoother.
Here are some of our tips to remember when renting a car.
- Try not to rent a vehicle that also tacks on extra
charges per mile you drive. Charges for extra miles can more
than double the cost of renting a car. The only way that a
deal like this could work is if the car comes with good
number of free miles per day. If the total allotted miles
over the course of the rental agreement gives you more than
enough miles to get to Disney World and back, it could work
for you.
- Most rental companies offer unlimited miles. Make sure
this is clear before taking the vehicle. Some companies
offer unlimited miles, but only if the car remains in the
state or within a certain area.
- Sometimes the rental companies are out of compact and
mid-sized cars. A larger size might be cheaper. They would
rather put you into something besides having you walk away.
Ask for a free upgrade when picking up your vehicle. It
never hurts to ask.
- Weekly rates are going to be better than renting by the
day. Always ask for the weekly rate. If possible try to rent for 8 days as there are extra
savings in renting for more than a week.
- Keep checking the rental car’s
websites and others to find the best deal. If a better deal,
special or upgrade comes out, cancel your previous
reservation, and make a new one.
- Most car rental companies do not
charge or penalize for cancellations as long as you cancel
within the required amount of time.
